Spartanburg residents should be excited to hear that BMW is once again expanding their footprint in our community.\u00a0 BMW recently announced that they\u2019re planning to build a brand new 527,000 square foot auto body shop.\u00a0 This new facility is expected to feature some of the latest technology in the automotive industry, including over 650 robots.\u00a0 This body shop expansion is part of BMW\u2019s planned $1 billion dollar expansion in Spartanburg.\u00a0 The new plant is expected to create an additional 800 jobs in Spartanburg, bringing the number of employees at BMW in Spartanburg up to around 9000.\u00a0 Construction is expected to be completed in 2017.<\/p>\n
Increased Capacity<\/b>
\nThe $1 billion dollar expansion of BMW\u2019s facilities is expected to boost the capacity of the carmaker\u2019s Spartanburg facilities to 450,000 per year, which is a massive jump compared to today\u2019s capacity of 350,000 vehicles.\u00a0 This expansion will pin Spartanburg as BMW\u2019s largest factory in the world.\u00a0 The beautiful facility offers more than 5 million square feet of production space, all set on a 1,150 acre campus.<\/p>\n
New Model \u2013 X7<\/b>
\nSince BMW acquired Land Rover, company officials have dreamed of integrating some of the Land Rover design and all-terrain functionality into BMW vehicles.\u00a0 The X7 is the first model to feature some of these advanced all terrain features and will also be BMW\u2019s first seven seater SUV.\u00a0 Many manufacturers are beginning to manufacture larger SUV\u2019s because of consumers need for larger, roomier cars that don\u2019t sacrifice when it comes to comfort or luxury.<\/p>\n
BMW Expansion Great News for Spartanburg<\/b>
\nWith BMW pledging to expand their production facilities in the area, this should be good news for Spartanburg residential and commercial real estate.\u00a0 These new employees will need places to live in the form of single family homes or apartments spelling a boon for the local real estate market as a whole.<\/p>\n
